THE BRIEF
Creating an Outdoor Lifestyle Destination
After purchasing their North Lakes home, the homeowners recognised the potential of the large backyard but felt it lacked purpose and connection to the way they wanted to live. The expansive lawn offered little opportunity for entertaining, relaxation, or family enjoyment and did not fully utilise the property's generous footprint.
The vision was to create a functional and inviting outdoor environment centred around a swimming pool while maintaining a sense of openness and connection to the home. The design needed to support family life, provide spaces to relax and entertain, and create a resort-inspired atmosphere that could be enjoyed throughout Queensland's warm climate.
THE DESIGN APPROACH
Balancing Function, Relaxation & Connection
The design focused on creating distinct zones while maintaining a cohesive visual language throughout the backyard. The swimming pool became the focal point, framed by soft neutral paving, glass pool fencing, warm timber elements, and carefully selected planting.
Every design decision was guided by simplicity, durability, and ease of maintenance, ensuring the space would remain both beautiful and practical for years to come.

SPACE PLANNING
Maximising the Backyard
The original backyard consisted largely of open lawn with limited functionality. The redesigned layout introduces dedicated zones for swimming, lounging, entertaining, and circulation while maintaining valuable open space around the pool.
This approach allows the backyard to feel both spacious and purposeful.
